AAH has written to MPs to highlight the estimated one million people with undiagnosed diabetes. That is about 1.5 per cent of the population which could mean that there are 10 MPs in the Commons with diabetes without knowing it.
In the letter, AAH encouraged MPs to visit a local community pharmacy in their constituency which offers a diabetes testing service.
Mark James, group managing director for AAH Pharmaceuticals said: “There are a lot of new MPs and many of them may not realise the scale of the problem and the fantastic role which many community pharmacies are playing in helping to find the one million people with undiagnosed diabetes.
“We highlighted AAH’s All About Health web site which not only provides healthcare and healthy living advice, it also allows people to find their nearest independent pharmacy and see what patient services are on offer.
“I hope many MPs will take up the suggestion to get tested at their local pharmacy as this will allow pharmacists to raise with them other issues facing the profession at this important time of change.”
